In this series of articles, we have compiled 1000 words that frequently feature in competitive exams.Spread over 25 lists of 40 words, these lists offer you a chance to learn the most essential English words.
Each word in the list is accompanied with its meaning and followed by a usage example. The words are categorized on three levels: 1, 2 and 3, according to the degree of difficulty. Go through the word lists and strengthen your vocabulary database.
Level 1: Let’s get warmed up

| Rationalize: Weed out unwanted or unnecessary things |

| Superfluous: Serving no useful purpose |
| My presence at the afternoon’s proceedings was superfluous. |
| Therapy: The act of caring for someone |
| He is having therapy to conquer his phobia. |
| Trend: A general direction in which something tends to move |
| The momentary trend of the stock-market is positive. |

| Volition: The act of making a choice |

| Wilted: Become limp |

| Antipathy: A feeling of intense dislike |

| Aquiline: Curved down like an eagle's beak |

| Covet: Wish, long, or crave for |

| Erudite: Having or showing profound knowledge |

| Felicitous: Exhibiting an agreeably appropriate manner or style |

| Frigid: Extremely cold |

| Germane: Relevant and appropriate |

| Halcyon: Idyllically calm and peaceful; suggesting happy tranquillity |
